Police Kill Man During Shootout In Montgomery County

Montgomery County police officers shot and killed a man after a traffic stop in Silver Spring, officials said.

The shooting happened on the morning of Dec. 29, the incident started when officers were called to a report of a shooting in the 900 block of Bonifant Street at 4:15 a.m.

An off-duty police officer found a man shot at the scene after hearing the sounds of gunfire. The victim was rushed to a hospital where he is expected to survive, police then began searching for the suspected shooter who had fled in a vehicle.

Montgomery County Police Chief Marcus Jones says officers subsequently located the suspect at the intersection of Wayne Avenue and Dartmouth Avenue, and when they pulled him over he fired several rounds at police.

Officers returned gunfire, hitting the driver multiple times. He died at the scene, according to police.

Four officers were involved in the shooting, according to Chief Jones, all were uninjured and have been placed on administrative leave while an investigation of the shooting is underway.
